Maria Laughner is the Director of the Economic Development Services Department.
Laughner comes to Peoria from the City of Mesa, where she served as the Deputy Economic Development Director of Strategic Initiatives.
In her role she directed strategic economic development initiatives including targeted business attraction in various industries, including aerospace and defense, semiconductor and climate technologies.
She also led negotiations related to attracting unique and high-quality retail, restaurants, hospitality and entertainment destinations.
Laughner has previous economic development experience with the City of Tempe as the Deputy Director of Economic Development and served as the City of Peoria Economic Development Manager from 2008 – 2013. In addition to municipal work experience, she has also supported business development initiatives in the higher education and private sectors.

Laughner holds a Bachelor of Arts from Marquette University, a Masters of Arts in Hispanic Civilization from New York University- Madrid Spain, and a Masters of Business Administration in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.
